Success for Students at Chibavi Community Day Secondary School
Chibavi Community Day Secondary School has only had computers since 2017 – but they now have a very active ICT club, led by their inspirational ICT teacher, Noel Mhone.
They have been learning to develop mobile phone apps to help with problems in their local community. Their apps covered topics as diverse as information for farmers to help maximise the yield of their crops, to a Banki M’Khonde andoird app for memberss of a women’s village bank group.
This year Idah Chiponza and Sibongile Nkosi entered the 2020 Virtual African Science Buskers Festival with their “Specialised Android Calculators Project”. There were 175 projects from 17 countries that made it to the finals and the team from Chibavi CDSS were awarded bronze medals and certificates. This is a fantastic achievement and will inspire other students to take up Computer Studies and in the longer term consider it as a career.
