District Executive Committee Hails Progress of BEFIT Program in Mzimba South
Yewo Msiska, Ulalo’s Program’s Manager presenting on the progress of the program
Members of the District Executive Committee (DEC) in Mzimba South have commended the Malawi government’s Building Education Foundations through Innovation and Technology (BEFIT) program for its significant strides in enhancing literacy and numeracy skills among learners.
The commendation came during a meeting held on Monday, attended by about 60 DEC members, to update stakeholders on the program’s progress.
BEFIT program focuses on improving literacy and numeracy through individualized, technology driven instruction.
Ulalo's Project Manager, Yewo Msiska, delivered a detailed presentation on the program’s advancements, particularly in Cohort 1 schools.
“We are thrilled with the progress made so far in Cohort 1 schools,” Msiska said. “The integration of technology has not only improved academic performance but has also fostered a more interactive and inclusive learning environment for students.”
The program’s impact aligns closely with the district’s educational goals, according to Bridget Nungu, the Director of Education and Sports for Mzimba District.
Nungu lauded the initiative for its innovative approach and expressed optimism about its long term potential.
“The BEFIT program is an important step toward transforming education in Mzimba South and the country at large,” Nungu said. “The progress we have seen so far is encouraging, and we look forward to continuing to work together to ensure its success.”
Ulalo is part of a consortium supporting the implementation of the BEFIT program, an EdTech initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Education through the Directorate of Open Distance and E-learning (DoDEL) and the Directorate of Basic Education (DBE).
Through BEFIT, learners in approximately 6,000 public primary schools across Malawi, particularly in Standards 1 to 4, will gain access to tablet based learning skills designed to enhance their literacy and numeracy skills.
