FROM UNCERTAINTY TO OPPORTUNITY, RUTH KALINGA’S JOURNEY TO ACADEMIC SUCCESS

“Now i can fully focus on my education”-Ruth 

18 year old Ruth Kainga, a student at Luwinga Secondary School in Mzuzu, was on the brink of dropping out due to financial difficulties.  

Raised by her uncle, Ruth’s future seemed uncertain. the weight of this reality hit her hardest just before her Junior Certificate exams. The fear of being sent home, missing classes, and ultimately failing to complete her education consumed her thoughts. 

However, her story took a turn when Ulalo, through its bursary program, stepped in to support her. Recognizing her potential and determination, Ulalo enrolled her in the program while she was in Form Two, ensuring she had the financial backing to remain in school. 

"Before Ulalo came in, I lived in constant fear of being sent home because of unpaid fees. I would often miss classes, which made it hard to concentrate on my studies. But now, I can fully focus on my education without worrying about school fees. This support has given me hope and a real chance to achieve my dreams," Ruth shares. 

Now in Form Four, Ruth is more determined than ever to excel in her studies. With renewed confidence and stability, she can pursue her education without the constant stress of financial struggles. She hopes to perform well in her upcoming national exams and one day become a role model for other girls facing similar challenges. 

Ruth’s journey is a testament to the life changing impact of Ulalo’s bursary program. She is one of 17 students currently benefiting from this initiative, which is providing underprivileged learners with access to quality education.
