Long Walk To School Cut Short With Bike Rental Project

Her pair of shoes do not last due to long distance to school, the walk of 26 kilometers to attain her right to education is impractical for the15 year old girl alas! The story has changed with Bike Rental Project.

Tiwonge Tchongwe, student of Enukweni Community Day Secondary School was on brink of giving up on education, her attendance lowered and consequently had to drop out of school and recently returned when she got the bike.

“This bike is very important for me, it’s a life line and it has gotten me back to school and am convinced my dream of becoming a nurse will come true,” she added.

According to Tiwonge, the long distance made her to return home tired forcing her not to study a thing which affected her performance.

“I would get home, very tired and I had neither the time nor the energy to support my mother with household chores and let alone study,” said Tiwonge.

With the bike, her story has tremendously transformed, Tiwonge is now in form 3 after passing the Junior Certificate of Education.

Tiwonge is one of other 13 students (5 boys and 8 girls) who have returned to school and avoided dropping out as a result of the bike rental project at Enukweni CDSS.
