Communities Empowered Through Watershed Management Training in Mzimba North
Participants of the Watershed Management Training stand united, ready to lead sustainable change in their communities.
A three-day Watershed Management and Catchment Conservation Training, part of the Community Activation Natural Resources Management and Improvement of Social Infrastructure (CANARASI) project, has successfully concluded at Magogo Primary School.
The training brought together 37 participants from the Gundazichi and Mthuzi Mithi Village Natural Resources Management Committees (VNRMCs), as well as Community Lead Farmers, to enhance their skills in sustainable environmental management.
Over the course of the training, participants learned key concepts such as agroforestry, soil restoration, sustainable agriculture, and the importance of protected forest zones, as well as ways to strengthen community incomes through sustainable practices.
The CANARASI project, implemented in Traditional Authority (TA) Mtwalo and TA Mpherembe, is supported by Chancen durch Bildung (CdB), a German-based organization focused on empowering communities through education and development.
Speaking during the training, Group Village Head (GVH) Mthuzi Mithi, one of the attendees, expressed his admiration for the ongoing conservation efforts in Magogo Forest:
“I didn’t expect that we could be so lucky to be part of this project that is bringing a lot of benefits to our community. The conservation activities happening here are truly commendable,” he said.
The successful completion of the training marks a significant milestone in strengthening the community's capacity to manage natural resources sustainably, with a strong focus on preserving local ecosystems and improving livelihoods.
