A Journey of Hope, and Transformation: 97 Volunteer Teachers Graduate to Become Professionals
From volunteers to professionals!
In the heart of Mzambazi, Mzimba North, an air of pride and joy filled the grounds of Theodora van Rossum Teachers' Training College as 218 student teachers, including 97 from Ulalo’s Volunteer Teacher Training Program, graduated in a ceremony marked with emotion, inspiration, and promise.
Among the graduates is Lemitta Nyasulu , 23 year old who began her journey as a volunteer teacher at Kakombwe primary school. With joy, she shared:
"I never imagined this day would come. I started with only passion and hope. Today, I walk out as a qualified teacher. Ulalo gave me the opportunity to serve, to learn, and now to lead in a classroom. I am forever grateful."
A proud moment One of the newly graduated volunteer teachers receives her testimonial
The 97 volunteer teachers were recruited by Ulalo from underserved primary schools, trained through Open and Distance Learning model, and supported every step of the way. Their graduation marks not only personal victories but a turning point for the education system in the region.
Speaking at the event, Bishop Yohane Suzgo Nyirenda of the Mzuzu catholic Diocese commended the initiative and emphasized the sacred responsibility teachers hold:
"To teach is to shape lives. These graduates are not just teachers they are nation builders. What Ulalo and its partners have done is not just train teachers, but invest in Malawi’s future."
This achievement was made possible through a strong partnership with Chancen durch Bildung (CDB) Germany, whose support turned a visionary idea into life-changing reality for hundreds of young aspiring educators.
Ulalo remains committed to empowering youth and transforming communities through inclusive and sustainable education initiatives. The graduation of these 97 volunteer teachers is just one of the many milestones on this journey.
