EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH SAVINGS FOR EMPOWERMENT GROUPs IN NTCHUKA, RUMPHI

In the remote village of Ntchuka, nestled within the landscapes of Rumphi district, a remarkable transformation is underway as 58 women from 4 savings groups are experiencing newfound empowerment through the Ulalo Savings for Empowerment Group.

According to Fanny Zimba, from Tradition Authority Linguluka, who is a member of Chimwemwe group, the savings groups help women to be empowered.

"Our group meetings serve as a vital space for us to come together, discuss important issues, and support each other," shares Fanny Zimba, a dedicated member of the group.

Gathering once a week, these women engage in discussions on various topics relevant to their lives, skillfully moderated by a different member each week. These sessions provide not only valuable insights but also a sense of community and belonging.

Central to the group's activities is its lending system, where members can borrow funds to address immediate needs or invest in income-generating ventures. "When we borrow money, we are committed to using it wisely and repaying it on time," emphasizes Zimba.

The impact of these loans is profound. "With the support of the group, I've been able to purchase essentials for my home and even pay for my children's school fees," shares Zimba.

As the Ulalo Savings for Empowerment Group continues to thrive in Ntchuka, the women of this community are not only transforming their own lives but also inspiring others to pursue financial independence and empowerment. Through resilience, unity, and determination, they are forging a path towards a brighter and more prosperous future for themselves and generations to come.
