CANARASI PROJECT RECEIVES APPROVAL FOR COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION
Excitement abounded on Thursday, June 13, 2024, as Ulalo successfully secured approval from the Mzimba North District Agriculture Extension Coordinating Committee (DAECC) to launch the highly anticipated Community Activation, Natural Resources, and Social Infrastructure (CANARASI) project.
The initiative, slated to run for 32 months, aims to bolster social infrastructure and promote sustainable resource management in communities surrounding the Vwaza Marsh National Park area.
Following a concise 30-minute presentation and an equally engaging Question and Answer session that extended for another 30 minutes, the DAECC enthusiastically greenlit the project for implementation.
Expressing his gratitude after the committee's endorsement, Moses Mkandawire, Ulalo’s Project Manager for CANARASI, hailed the decision as a significant milestone, emphasizing the transformative impact the project promises to deliver.
"It's a significant milestone for us to receive approval from the Mzimba North District Agriculture Extension Coordinating Committee," said Mkandawire.
He Added: "This initiative is pivotal in fostering sustainable resource management and enhancing social infrastructure in the communities surrounding the Vwaza Marsh National Park area."
James Gondwe, Executive Director for Ulalo, highlighted the importance of consulting with the technical working group before initiating such a transformative endeavor.
"We recognize the importance of engaging with the technical working group before embarking on such a transformative initiative," emphasized Gondwe. "This collaboration ensures that our efforts are aligned with the needs and priorities of the community, maximizing our impact."
Beyond resource management, the CANARASI project seeks to enhance service delivery in schools and the wider community. Key infrastructural developments include the construction of 2 school blocks, a duplex teacher's house, 2 community centers, and student toilets with dedicated facilities for girls, among others.
Ulalo has partnered with Chancen durch Bildung and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development-BMZ to realize the ambitious CANARASI project, valued at over 700 million kwachas.
