Officials from Mzimba North and South Education Districts have pledged full commitment to the Building Education Foundations through Innovation and Technology (BEFIT) program, reinforcing their dedication to improving education quality through technology.

This commitment was made during a program review meeting aimed at assessing BEFIT’s progress and impact in both Mzimba South and North.

The Director of Education and Sports (DES) for Mzimba South, Bridget Nungu, emphasized the importance of BEFIT in the education system, stating, “BEFIT is not just a program; it’s part of our daily duties and here to stay. We must all ensure that all hands are on deck to make BEFIT the anchor of all subjects.”

On her part, the Chief Education Officer for Mzimba North, Jessy Kapombe, stressed the need for schools to embrace BEFIT fully, ensuring its sustainability and effectiveness in enhancing student learning.

With Quality Assurance Officers and district council officials gathered for the review session, it was clear that a strong, unified effort is underway to ensure BEFIT’s success. The initiative is seen as a key driver in improving the foundational literacy and numeracy skills of students in the district.

James Gondwe, Executive Director of Ulalo, expressed his support for the collaboration, stating, “We are proud to be part of this transformative journey. BEFIT’s role in shaping a brighter future for our learners is undeniable, and we are committed to ensuring its success in Mzimba and beyond.”

The review sessions for Mzimba North were held from Monday to Tuesday, while Mzimba South convened from Wednesday to Friday. The sessions concluded tomorrow, after providing key insights into the program's impact and the way forward.

BEFIT is a Government of Malawi-owned and led program aimed at enhancing literacy and numeracy among learners in Standards 1 to 4 across all public primary schools in Malawi. The program supplements traditional instruction with individualized, self-paced learning via specialized apps on Android tablets.

Ulalo is actively supporting the implementation of BEFIT in 51 schools across Mzimba South District and 48 schools in Mzimba North District.
