International Day of a Girl Child 2023

Invest in Girls' Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being

Girls such as these are the future that the world is hoping for-Bwengu Primary School students

A Message from Ulalo

The International Day of the Girl Child serves as a reminder of the challenges that girls worldwide continue to face, with a primary focus on empowering them and ensuring the realization of their fundamental human rights.

As we come together to commemorate this day, we want to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to fostering opportunities for girls. Ulalo remains dedicated to collaborating with children, youth, educational institutions, communities, and government bodies, all in a collective effort to design and implement solutions that equip girls with the skills they need to attain further education, overcome gender inequalities, and become catalysts for community development.

This year's theme "Invest in Girls' Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being" clearly aligns with our mission of contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals as we approach the world's 2030 targets.

Our Impactful initiatives

At the core of every Ulalo initiative lies the empowerment of the girl child. Our initiatives, from our bursary program, skills development, Bike Rental, menstrual hygiene management, ICT for Development (ICT4DEV), and many more, are all geared towards creating opportunities for girls, see our work here.

A good example of Ulalo's commitment to Girls can be demonstrated at Bwengu Community Day Secondary School.  Here, we constructed a 72-student capacity Girls hostel, Dining Hall and Kitchen, and a fully furnished computer lab and library, all of which continue to enhance the educational prospects of the girl child.

In our pursuit of ICT for development, Ulalo ensures that girls are equipped with the essential computer knowledge and skills. Our collaboration with partners has seen the provision of computers to various schools enabling thousands of students and in particular Girls access digital skills and we are in the final stages of completing the construction and furnishing of another computer lab at Enukweni CDSS.

In Commemoration of this Important Day

In celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child 2023, Ulalo is proud to announce that we are marking this day at Luzi Community Day Secondary School.  Collaborating with the Mzimba North District Education Office, we are facilitating leadership and well-being sessions dedicated to providing girls with a platform to not only express their thoughts and aspirations but also to instill hope and empowerment.

Our goal is to nurture their leadership skills, instill confidence, and help them recognize their inherent potential which is in complete alignment with this year's theme. We firmly believe that by giving girls a voice, we are not only celebrating their unique capabilities but also reaffirming our commitment to breaking down the barriers that often hinder them from reaching their full potential.

As we tirelessly address the barriers that hinder girls from realizing their educational potential, we urge everyone, including our partners, to amplify the voices of girls. Together, we can create a better world that empowers them to become strong, independent women. A brighter future with Girls at the helm is not only possible but imperative for girls to lead us towards a more equitable and brighter future.
